A seawhip goby rests on whip coral against blue water in this Red Sea photograph by Cobi Hay Yacobi. The small fish and its slender support share a vertical composition, with water behind them. Choose from two portrait canvas sizes for an entryway, a study or a section of wall beside living room furniture.
About the seawhip goby
The scientific name is Bryaninops yongei. This small member of the goby family has a partly transparent, brownish body with darker bars across the back. It lives on the sea whip Cirripathes anguina, often in areas swept by currents. The host provides the narrow surface on which the fish lives.
The species occurs across the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea. Its small size and translucent appearance can make it difficult to pick out against its host. The Fishes of Australia species account, hosted by Museums Victoria, describes its appearance and close association with sea whips.
A small subject against open blue
The seawhip goby appears on the coral with blue water behind it. The photograph makes the fish’s position on that narrow support the subject of the picture. The coral and fish remain together in the frame, showing both the animal and the surface it occupies.
The portrait format gives this arrangement height. From across a room, the narrow coral provides a line to follow through the blue. A closer view draws attention to the small fish itself. Consider a position where you can step toward the canvas, such as beside an entryway console or near a desk.

Your photograph, printed and stretched
The seawhip goby photograph is printed on matte canvas using non-toxic latex inks. The canvas is stretched over an inner wooden frame made from sustainably sourced pine. The frame is 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep, and the photograph wraps around its edges.
Hanging hardware is included, and your canvas arrives ready to hang. No decorative outer frame is included. The wooden support already inside the canvas keeps it stretched, while the exposed wrapped edges can remain part of your display. An outer frame can be chosen separately to match other artwork.
Two portrait sizes and their prices
- 8 × 12 in (20 × 30 cm) — $69 USD
- 20 × 30 in (51 × 76 cm) — $149 USD
Each size may vary by about 3 mm (1/8 in). The smaller seawhip goby canvas offers a compact vertical format, while the larger one gives the subject more space on the wall. For a different size, contact us to discuss your requirements.
Measure both width and height before ordering. Beside a console, include the height of lamps, vases or other objects that might overlap the image. A paper rectangle matching the intended canvas dimensions can help you judge the arrangement without relying on the room photograph alone.
Price and shipping
Prices start at $69 USD. Shipping is free to the USA, Canada and Australia. Shipping to other eligible countries depends on canvas size and quantity and is shown at checkout before payment. The English shop does not ship to the EU, the EEA or the UK. Outside the USA, import duties or taxes may apply.
Make room for the smaller details
The room images show the seawhip goby in an entryway with an oak console. The small canvas rests on the console, leaning against the wall; the medium version hangs above it. These examples show how a vertical photograph can fit into a space organized around a horizontal piece of furniture.
For a home office, consider a narrow wall beside the desk where you can see the fish from nearby. In a living room, compare the blue background with colors already present in the furnishings. Choose your seawhip goby canvas size after checking the wall, then add it to your cart.
