This octopus close-up centers on a visible eye surrounded by brown skin patterns, pale markings and nearby corals. Cobi Hay Yacobi photographed the scene in the Red Sea in November 2019. Gold and green tones appear around the animal, with no open water in the frame. Available in three landscape sizes, the photograph brings a small patch of reef into view on canvas.
About the animal and its camouflage
Octopuses are soft-bodied marine mollusks with eight arms. Their flexible bodies can fit into narrow spaces, and their arms help them move across the seabed. The close view here focuses on the animal’s eye and skin, with the surrounding reef kept in the composition.
Color and texture changes help octopuses blend into nearby surfaces. Pigment-containing cells affect the visible color, while projections in the skin can form bumps and ridges. The National Aquarium’s octopus guide explains these mechanisms. This photograph is presented as an octopus, without assigning it to a particular species.
Reading the octopus close-up
The visible eye has a horizontal pupil. Around it, pale patches break up a brown, netlike pattern across the skin. The corals add gold and green areas alongside the body. Follow the outline outward from the eye to see where the animal meets its surroundings.
The octopus close-up fills the frame with nearby detail. There is no open blue background to separate the subject from the reef; instead, the eye gives you a starting point within the patterns. Consider a position where you can see the whole photograph from a distance and approach it to examine the smaller markings.
Photographed in: the Red Sea

A Small Corner of the Reef
I photographed this little patch of a Red Sea reef with no open water in the frame. You can follow the outline of the octopus to see where its body ends and the reef begins.
Your photograph on stretched canvas
The octopus close-up is printed with non-toxic latex inks on matte canvas. The canvas is stretched over an inner wooden frame of sustainably sourced pine, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep. The photograph wraps around the edges, and hanging hardware is included. It arrives ready to hang.
A decorative outer frame is not included. You can display the wrapped canvas edges or choose an outer frame separately to fit your room. The inner wooden support already forms part of the finished print.

Beside a reading chair or across a meeting room
The room images show the smallest octopus close-up above a wooden nightstand with a black lamp, mug and book. The medium size appears in a reading nook over an orange armchair with a throw, beside a floor lamp. The largest hangs in an office meeting room above a sideboard with a water carafe and glasses.
In a reading area, compare the warm tones with your chair and nearby wood finishes. In an office, check the view from the seats around the table as well as the doorway. A paper template matching the canvas dimensions can help you judge the space before ordering.
Compare a wider underwater view
For a scene with more space beyond the animal, compare this octopus close-up with the octopus on sand with a diver behind it. Read Coral Reef Partnerships to continue exploring the surrounding habitat. Choose the composition you prefer, then match its size to your wall.
