An arc-eye hawkfish rises between yellow corals in this portrait from Palau by Cobi Hay Yacobi. A pale stripe runs along its reddish body, and a curved marking frames the area behind its eye. The photograph is available on stretched matte canvas in three vertical sizes, with room for both the fish and its coral surroundings.
About the arc-eye hawkfish
The species, Paracirrhites arcatus, belongs to the hawkfish family, Cirrhitidae. It lives in tropical Indo-Pacific waters, inhabiting lagoons and seaward reefs. Individuals often perch on branching corals. Their diet includes shrimp, small fish, crabs and other crustaceans, making the coral perch part of a setting where they find food.
A horseshoe-shaped marking behind the eye helps identify the fish. Other features include a broad pale stripe along the rear part of the body and small branched tufts at the tips of the dorsal spines. Color varies between individuals. The Fishes of Australia species account describes these markings, its habitat and feeding habits.
Cobi’s note from Palau
The small, agile arc-eye hawkfish (Arc Eye Hawkfish) lives among corals in shallow water. It perches on a coral or rock, waiting for shrimp and tiny fish to pass, then darts out to catch them. I photographed this individual on a diving trip to Palau. It was only around 5 centimeters long.
Look from the eye to the coral
The arc-eye hawkfish faces upward and to the left. Yellow and pale rings surround the dark eye, with a curved orange marking just behind it. A white stripe runs down the visible side of the body. Yellow coral branches occupy the foreground, while a broad area of dark blue opens above the fish.
The upright composition carries the eye along the fish’s body and into the space above its head. At close range, the coral’s textured surface contrasts with the more regular scales. From farther away, red, yellow and deep blue become the main elements. That difference is useful when choosing a print for a hallway or a room viewed from a seated position.

Your photograph on stretched canvas
The arc-eye hawkfish photograph is printed on matte canvas with non-toxic latex inks. An inner frame of sustainably sourced pine supports the stretched fabric. It is 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep, and the photograph wraps around the edges. Hanging hardware is included, so the canvas arrives ready to hang.
No decorative outer frame is included. You can leave the wrapped sides visible or add an outer frame separately. The inner wooden structure is already part of the product, keeping the canvas stretched and ready for display.

A portrait for a hallway or study
The room images show the arc-eye hawkfish above a round oak side table in a hallway. The smallest version rests on the table, leaning against the wall. These examples help show how a vertical print can sit alongside a compact piece of furniture without needing a wide stretch of wall.
In a study, consider a position beside the desk where the lower coral remains visible above lamps or a monitor. The dark blue background and yellow coral offer clear color references for nearby furnishings. Check the full outline from the doorway before settling on the height.
