A false stonefish stands out against black in this close underwater photograph by Cobi Hay Yacobi. Its raised eye, heavy jaw and mottled surface fill the lower part of the composition. Photographed in the Red Sea, the image is available in three landscape canvas sizes for a living room, office or space above a counter.
About the false stonefish
The scientific name is Scorpaenopsis diabolus, and another common name is devil scorpionfish. It belongs to the scorpionfish family, Scorpaenidae. Despite its English name, it is distinct from true stonefishes. It occurs across tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific waters and has a large head, pointed snout and short dorsal fin spines.
Its colors vary, including red, orange, green and other shades. The inner pectoral fin has a yellowish surface and a large black spot. When threatened, the fish can spread those fins to reveal their bright inner surfaces. The Australian Museum’s species account describes these features and records a maximum length of 30 cm.
The portrait and its dark background
The head points upward and to the right, with a reddish ring around the visible eye. Pale patches and small projections interrupt the brown and green surface. The mouth makes a distinct line near the front of the head, and reef detail remains visible along the lower edge of the photograph.
In this false stonefish portrait, a broad black area above the animal gives the uneven outline room to stand out. From across a room, the head is the main shape. Move closer and the fine skin texture becomes more apparent. A wall that you can approach lets you enjoy both the overall composition and those smaller details.

Matte canvas and wooden support
Your false stonefish photograph is printed on matte canvas with non-toxic latex inks. The canvas is stretched over an inner frame of sustainably sourced pine, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep. The image continues around the edges, and hanging hardware is included. It arrives ready to hang without a decorative outer frame.
The inner frame keeps the canvas stretched; an optional outer frame is a separate addition. Displaying the wrapped edges keeps the photograph’s rectangular shape clear. If you plan to add a frame later, leave enough space around the print when measuring the wall.
Three landscape sizes with prices

Each size may vary by about 3 mm (1/8 in). Before choosing your false stonefish canvas, measure the width above your furniture and the available height. Marking out a rectangle on the wall can help you compare sizes from your usual viewing position. You can also contact us about a different size.

From a café wall to your own space
The room images show the false stonefish canvas above a wooden café counter, with the smallest version leaning against the wall on the counter. In a home, a sideboard or low cabinet offers a similar starting point. Compare the dark background with the wall color and the furniture beneath it.
For an office, position the print where the lower part will remain visible above screens or other equipment. Keep it out of direct sunlight and clean only with a soft, dry cloth. Leave enough room around the artwork to see its full outline from your chair.
