This hogfish canvas print gives a broad wall a detailed marine subject: a fish with a long snout, an orange-red eye and fine yellow markings across its body. Cobi Hay Yacobi photographed it in Jardines de la Reina, Cuba. Printed on stretched matte canvas, the landscape image is available in three sizes for a reading nook, living room or office.
The animal behind your hogfish canvas print
The hogfish, Lachnolaimus maximus, is a wrasse from the western Atlantic, including the Caribbean. It is the only species in its genus. It lives near reefs and open seabeds. Its projecting snout helps it search the bottom for food, and its diet includes mollusks, crustaceans and sea urchins. The name refers to that snout and its habit of rooting through the substrate.
A deep, flattened body and three elongated spines at the front of the dorsal fin distinguish this fish. Its colors vary with age, sex and habitat. The Florida Museum’s hogfish profile describes these features and the animal’s natural history. The photograph offers a close view of the snout and fin shape discussed in that account.
Look closely at the photograph
The fish faces left across the frame. Yellow lines cover its pinkish body, and the long dorsal spines extend into blue water above it. Its eye and yellow pectoral fin stand out clearly. The background becomes darker toward the bottom, leaving the fish’s outline visible across most of the image.
These details give the hogfish canvas print two scales of interest. From across a room, the wide silhouette and blue background define the composition. Up close, the markings around the face and along the body become easier to follow. The photograph concentrates on one animal, with water providing space around it.

Canvas, wooden support and hanging
Your hogfish canvas print uses matte canvas and non-toxic latex inks. It is stretched over an inner frame of sustainably sourced pine, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep, with the photograph continuing around the edges. Hanging hardware is included. The canvas arrives ready to hang without a decorative outer frame.
That construction lets you display the canvas with its wrapped edges exposed. If you want an outer frame to match other artwork, it is a separate addition. The wooden structure supporting the canvas is already part of the print; there is no need to have a loose canvas stretched before displaying it.
Choose from three landscape sizes
- 12 × 8 in (30 × 20 cm) — $69 USD
- 30 × 20 in (76 × 51 cm) — $149 USD
- 36 × 24 in (91 × 61 cm) — $169 USD
All prices are in US dollars. Each size may vary by about 3 mm (1/8 in). The smallest hogfish canvas print can suit a compact arrangement; the two larger formats give the fish more wall space. Measure the width above your furniture as well as the available height. For a different size, contact us.
Price and shipping
Your hogfish canvas print starts at $69 USD, with free shipping to the USA, Canada and Australia. For other eligible countries, shipping depends on canvas size and quantity and appears at checkout before payment. The English shop does not ship to the EU, the EEA or the UK. Outside the USA, import duties or taxes may apply.
Production and delivery times are listed in Orders and Cancellations below. The delivery period follows printing, so allow for both when planning a gift. An order confirmation arrives by email, followed by a tracking number when the canvas ships.
Bring it into a reading nook or office
The room images place the hogfish canvas print above an oak bench in a reading nook; the smallest version leans on the bench. For a similar arrangement, compare the print’s width with the seating below. In an office, a horizontal wall above low furniture offers another possible position for the wide composition.
