This reef canvas brings a close view of a day octopus and a rounded coral to your wall, with open blue water behind them. Cobi Hay Yacobi took the photograph in the Red Sea on May 8, 2015. Curled arms and pale suckers fill the foreground. Three landscape sizes let you choose how much space to give the animal and its surroundings.
About the Day Octopus
The day octopus hunts during daylight hours and ranges from the Hawaiian Islands to the Red Sea. Pigments in its skin help it camouflage itself.
Its scientific name is Octopus cyanea. Along with color changes, it can alter its skin texture to resemble nearby rocks, corals or algae. Its diet includes small crabs and other crustaceans, mollusks and fishes. The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s day octopus profile explains these adaptations and its life around tropical reefs.
Look closer at your reef canvas
The octopus’s red-brown arms curl across the front of the picture, where pale suckers stand out. Beside it sits a large, light-colored rounded coral. Blue water opens behind both subjects, giving the detailed foreground a clear backdrop. The image combines the curves of the arms with a broad coral shape.
The reef canvas can be read at different distances. From a doorway, the warm body colors and blue background establish the composition. From a seat nearby, you can follow the bends of the arms and individual pale details. Consider both views when deciding whether to place the photograph above furniture or on a wall beside you.

Canvas, wooden frame and hanging
Your reef canvas is printed with non-toxic latex inks on matte canvas, stretched over an inner wooden frame made from sustainably sourced pine. The frame is 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep. The photograph wraps around its edges, and hanging hardware is included, so the print arrives ready to hang.
The canvas comes without a decorative outer frame. Its internal wooden support is already part of the product. If an outer frame would suit your room, you can choose one separately to coordinate with nearby artwork or furniture.
Choose a landscape size
- 12 × 8 in (30 × 20 cm) — $69 USD
- 30 × 20 in (76 × 51 cm) — $149 USD

Each size may vary by about 3 mm (1/8 in). Measure the width above your furniture and the available wall height before choosing your reef canvas. The crop may vary slightly between sizes, with the subject remaining the focus. Contact us if you are looking for a different size.

From a kitchen wall to a waiting room
The room images place the smallest reef canvas above a kitchen counter with a cutting board, mug and pasta jar. The medium print appears in a doctor’s waiting room above two padded chairs. The largest is shown over a gray living room sofa, beside a floor lamp and a table with a mug.
For an office, try comparing the canvas width with a low cabinet or a pair of visitor chairs. A paper template can help you check the space. The blue water offers a color to repeat in the room, while the octopus adds warmer brown and red tones.
