About the Caribbean reef shark

This shark lives in the tropical western Atlantic and is especially associated with Caribbean coral reefs. It is a member of the requiem shark family, with a sturdy body, a rounded snout and long pectoral fins. Adults can reach around three meters in length, placing them among the larger predators in their reef habitat.

Fish and cephalopods form part of its diet. It may also rest motionless on the seabed or in caves, a behavior that distinguishes it from the familiar image of a shark always swimming. The Florida Museum species profile describes its habitat, appearance and behavior.
