This Palau blue hole photograph places a diver’s silhouette within an opening of blue light, surrounded by dark rock. It is a photograph by Cobi Hay Yacobi of Haya, his wife and dive buddy. Available on stretched matte canvas in three landscape sizes, it brings the shapes of a cavern and a human figure into the same composition.
Palau blue hole: the setting
Palau is an island country in the Pacific Ocean. Its Blue Holes dive site includes a large cavern within the reef. The Palau Visitors Authority’s dive site guide describes this cavern setting among the country’s underwater landscapes.
Here, the setting is central to the photograph. The rock outlines an opening, while light in the water separates the diver from the darker surroundings. The picture offers a view of a place through the relationship between those elements: cavern, water, light and a person moving through them.
Cobi’s story behind the photograph
I captured this moment as Haya, my wife and dive buddy, swam out of a vast cavern in Palau’s Blue Hole and into the sunlight. Dark rock frames a bright blue opening, with her silhouette suspended between light and shadow. Printed on canvas, this personal memory brings the stillness and scale of the underwater world into your home.
For me, the dive combined physical challenge with a sense of freedom and natural beauty I couldn’t experience on land.
Look at the light and the silhouette
In this Palau blue hole composition, black surrounds the blue center and the diver remains a dark figure within it. The rock forms a natural border inside the photograph. This visible border belongs to the scene itself; the canvas is supplied without a decorative outer frame.
The human figure also gives you a reference for the space around it. Viewed across a room, the broad areas of dark and blue define the picture. At closer range, you can follow the silhouette and the edges of the opening.

Display it in a loft, study or living room
The room images place the Palau blue hole canvas above a teak media console in a loft. The small version leans against the wall on the console. The two larger versions hang above it, giving you examples of how the same photograph occupies different amounts of wall space.
A study or office with a low cabinet offers a similar starting point. Keep lamps and other tall objects clear of the picture’s central opening. Check the arrangement from your normal seated position before deciding which size works best.
