A day octopus fills the foreground of this Red Sea photograph by Cobi Hay Yacobi, with blue water opening up behind it. Reddish skin, pale spots and nearby corals give the portrait detail to explore at close range. The photograph is available on stretched matte canvas in three vertical sizes, for anything from a bedside wall to a larger space above furniture.
Meet the day octopus
The day octopus gets its name from hunting during daylight hours and is found from the Hawaiian Islands to the Red Sea. Specialized pigments in its skin help it blend into its surroundings while hunting and avoiding predators. It feeds on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks that stay in one place.
Camouflage involves texture as well as color: this animal can alter its skin surface to resemble nearby rocks, corals or algae. That ability helps a daytime hunter blend into a reef. The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s species account describes its camouflage, food and reef habitat.
What you can see in the photograph
The day octopus rests on the seabed with its arms extending across the foreground. Its eye is visible above the folds of the body, while pale markings break up the red-brown skin. Corals appear beside it, and the upper part of the picture contains a broad area of blue water.
The portrait format holds both the close subject and the water behind it. Look near the bottom for the arrangement of the arms, then follow the shape upward toward the eye. The contrast between the warm body colors and the blue background gives the image a clear structure without needing a busy setting around it.

How your print is made
The day octopus photograph is printed on matte canvas using non-toxic latex inks. The canvas is stretched over an inner wooden frame made from sustainably sourced pine. The frame is 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep, and the photograph wraps around its edges. Hanging hardware is included, so the canvas arrives ready to hang.
No decorative outer frame is included. You can display the wrapped canvas edges or add an outer frame to suit other artwork in the room. The inner wooden support is already fitted.
Three portrait sizes with prices
- 8 × 12 in (20 × 30 cm) — $69 USD
- 20 × 30 in (51 × 76 cm) — $149 USD
- 24 × 36 in (61 × 91 cm) — $169 USD
Each size may vary by about 3 mm (1/8 in). The day octopus remains the subject in every format, although the crop may vary slightly between sizes. Measure your wall in both directions, including clearance above lamps and furniture. If you need a different size, contact us to discuss the options.

From a bedside wall to the living room
The room images show the day octopus in three settings: the smallest canvas above an oak bedside table, the middle size beside a sofa, and the largest above a bedroom headboard. The living room arrangement includes a round table with a lamp, books and a mug. These examples offer practical starting points for comparing scale.
For an office, consider a vertical wall section beside a desk or seating area. Use the blue water as a color reference when placing the print near existing furnishings. A paper rectangle matching your chosen size can help you judge the available space before ordering.
