This frogfish canvas reveals the textured skin and prominent eye of an Antennarius photographed in the Red Sea by Cobi Hay Yacobi. Pink, red and brown tones meet a blue background. The close view lets you study an animal whose shape can merge with the reef, with three canvas sizes available for your home or office.
The animal in your frogfish canvas
The fish is identified to genus as Antennarius, within the frogfish family Antennariidae. A particular species has not been assigned. Frogfishes are ambush predators, often resembling the sponges, corals or algae around them. Their body shape, skin texture and variable coloring help disguise their outline.
Many members of the family have a modified dorsal-fin spine that acts as a fishing rod, tipped with a lure. Moving the lure draws prey closer to the mouth. Rather than pursuing food over long distances, they wait for fish or crustaceans to come within reach, then engulf them quickly.
Frogfishes also have limb-like fins that help them move across the bottom. The Fishes of Australia family account explains their anatomy, camouflage and feeding. These features provide background for looking at the animal; the photograph itself is a close portrait, rather than a record of a feeding sequence.
Look for the eye, then follow the texture
In this frogfish canvas, the close perspective reveals the head and rough surface of the body while retaining part of the surrounding reef. The eye offers a useful starting point for looking. From there, follow the changes in shape and color that separate the fish from its setting.
Underwater lighting brings out the warm pink and brown tones described in the original photograph. Blue behind the subject provides a contrasting area of color. Keeping both the fish and some of its surroundings in view makes the portrait a study of texture as well as an animal image.

Printed, stretched and ready to hang
Your frogfish canvas is printed with non-toxic latex inks on matte canvas. The material is stretched over a 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep inner frame of sustainably sourced pine. The photograph wraps around the edges, and hanging hardware is included.
The print arrives ready to hang without a decorative outer frame. Its inner wooden support is included. Display the wrapped edges as supplied, or add a separate outer frame to match other pictures in your room.
